Muni changes - Mission/May Calendar

My apologies to my many subscribers. There is something wrong - we haven't figured it out yet - with Blogger or the server or feeder forwarding my blogs. Currently there are people working on this problem . In the meantime I would suggest bookmarking this blog. My next blog will be tomorrow. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

Last night was the San Francisco Transit Effectiveness (Muni changes) meeting at City College Mission Campus on Valencia Street .
I was surprised by the huge turnout- the room was jammed packed with standees. Project Manager Julie Kirschbaum, as always, was well prepared even when it was evident that there was a big contingent from the Harrison Street community attending to find out further information about putting a new bus line on Harrison Street (currently Harrison Street has no buses). The principal from George R. Moscone Elementary School spoke strongly opposing a new bus line on Harrison , there were many people in the room concerned about bus traffic going by the school (340 children are dropped and picked up everyday at one entrance).
There was also discussion of eliminating the #26 Valencia Street bus.
Supervisor Tom Ammiano spoke briefly as he is the Supervisor for District 9 and is the San Francisco Board member on the MTA for San Francisco. He thought that one of the good reasons for having District Elections is that it makes people accountable to an area - where the Supervisor can help focus issues for that district. The new supervisor for District Nine in November will have to make Muni changes one of their top priorities.
Tom Ammiano is asking that there be continued Muni meetings in the future so that issues don't go away.
When Tom was first elected to the Board of Supervisors twelve years ago he took the #26 Valencia bus to his his swearing in - and he was late!!!
The people in the room were very serious and were paying attention to the small meetings being held at each table where a Muni person had maps out going over their concerns.
It was stated that these are tentative plans and that the Muni will have to increase it's reliability before any changes are put in place - tentatively set for 2009.
Muni is working very hard - many miles to go - I admire Muni taking on this huge project - we need to support the effort and work out the problems of the community - not an easy thing to do.

Jane Morrison's Birthday!/Political Calendar

On Sunday Ann Kirk and Ed Sykes on the famous "Woodland Avenue" hosted Jane Morrison's 88th birthday and fundraiser for her re-election to the Democratic Central Committee in the 12th Assembly District.
I can say her age it out loud because it was on the cake!
What a beautiful day - just gorgeous - there was a deck, sunshine and good food. Many friends showed up with Agar Jaicks doing the honors of telling the story about Jane - starting out in Oklahoma and moving to San Francisco with her husband, Jack Morrison.
Jane doesn't put up with a lot of fuss - or long speeches - but she was happy and looked great!
Scott Weiner, Chair of the San Francisco Democratic Party said there was no one on the Democratic Central Committee who works harder than Jane, and that includes himself - 50 years younger!
Jane talked about her passions - San Francisco Tomorrow - ( San Francisco Tomorrow's dinner is May 21, 2008 - Jane is the Chair of the dinner) and high speed rail . She said she had become best friends with Quentin Kopp who is the Chair of the High Speed Rail Authority (Quentin and Jane didn't use to agree on many things .)
Jane is a "beloved lady"
