Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club meeting with Supervisor Sean Elsbernd - Meeting held last night at the Lesbian Gay Community Center. Supervisor Elsbernd spoke initially about the possibility of a November charter amendment regarding revising San Francisco's Health Program in regards to city employee's. The Supervisor has worked over three months with everyone in involved (including labor unions) to come up with the legislation. It was obvious that the supervisor knows that you have to campaign and get the message out about this legislation in order to get the ballot measure passed on the November 2008 ballot.
The first question asked was "tell us about the good times on the board". The Supervisor's response was "I am still waiting". He took a moment to talk about in the current Board dynamic that is was going to be a difficult year to get through because of passing the budget with such a large deficit and the relationship between Mayor Gavin and certain members of the Board.
The Supervisor is a very serious, straightforward person who has worked very hard on issues that are very difficult - i.e. General Hospital, Laguna Honda - he actually wants to be on Budget Committee. The Supervisor didn't think there were be a revenue measure in the future until at least 2010. The Supervisor is No on 98 - supporting rent control. He supports District Elections.
Alice B. Toklas supported the Supervisor in his first term in office - that is why Alice was one of the first places he went to discuss the Health Legislation.
Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval dropped by briefly and said hello in his campaign for Superior Court Judge.
The Alice meeting was very serious, they are very organized and they have a great team co-chaired by Susan Christian and Julius Turman. (Julius Turman was just appointed by the Mayor to the Human Rights Commission.)
Alice will be tabling to register voters and get signature-in-lieu forms for Mark Leno for State Senate this Saturday and Sunday - Feb. 16th and 17th.
