On a beautiful balmy evening I attended a community meeting organized by Dolores Park Works at Mission High School to discuss safety, law enforcement and safety at 19th Street and Dolores.
Panelists:
Captain Greg Corrales - Mission Police Station
Supervisor Bevan Dufty
Eric Anderson - RPD Neighborhood Service Area Manager
Bob Palacio, Former RPD Neighborhood Service Area Manager
Manito Velasco, Engineer, SFMTA
IIaria Salvadori, SF Planning Department (Streetscape project)
Adrian Field, RPD Park Section Supervisor for the Mission Complex
Marcus Santiago, RPD Park Ranger
Meredith Thomas, Executive Director, Neighborhood Parks Council
Vickie Bell, Deputy Director, Neighborhood Park Council
Crystal Vann Wallstrom, from Dolores Park Works and moderator, did an excellent job of moving the agenda and letting everyone speak within a 2 hour time period.
The meeting was well attended with discussion regarding a Stop Sign at 19th Street and Dolores Street, traffic calming and enforcement of park rules - drinking, trash, bathroom facilities.
No one walked away totally happy.
Sort of reminded me of the song from Rodgers and Hammerstein Musical "Oklahoma" - "Farmer and the Cowman"
"The neighbors and the picnickers should be friends.
Oh, the neighbors and the picnickers should be friends.
One person likes to enjoy their home, the other likes to look at the view
But that's no reason why they can't be friends".
This meeting was a start. As Crystal Vann Wallstrom said "one the three people running for Supervisor in this room tonight will be working with us next year to come up with a plan we can all work with".
- Celebrate Dolores Park's special roles it plays in patron's live
- Continuous improvement of the park's natural beauty and infrastructure
- Permeate pride, stewardship, and responsibility among park patrons
- Represent patron's feedback to SF Rec and Park Department and City Hall
- Engage community participation to achieve these goals.
Dolores Park Renovation Community meeting will be held September 13th from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Dolores Park, 455 Dolores Street, San Francisco. At this meeting there will be panel of Dolores Park advocates discussing the design of the renovated Dolores Park. Attend and offer your ideas for the renovation.
