What: Gray Panthers of San Francisco - Carol Ruth Silver will read from her recently published memoir "Freedom Rider Diary" winner of this year's Eudora Welty Prize. She will share her experiences as a twenty-two-year old college graduate who left New York City to join the Freedom Riders on one of the historic rides to desegregate the buses in the South. Her participation in this nonviolent civil disobedience led to her arrest and imprisonment in the infamous Mississippi Parchment Prison Farm for 40 days.
