San Francisco for Democracy endorsement meeting last night in the Mission.
As would be expected the housing legislation G and F was the item that the most time was spent.
Johnnie Carter spoke for Yes on G and responded to questions about Lennar Corporation being the main contractor for this legislation. Yes on G people need to bring out more people to speak for their side (not paid staff for Lennar Corporation). Literature handed out had no contact information except: Lennar Homes of California, Inc., 49 Stevenson Street, Suite 600, S.F. Ca 94105. No phone number, web site or email address given?
Larry Lattimore and others spoke for Yes on F (the 50% affordable housing initiative). The people from POWER are to be commended for being so articulate and clear on their presentation - very persusive.
Endorsers of Yes on F:
Coleman Advocates for Children and Youth, Council of Community Housing Organizations, San Francisco School Board President Mark Sanchez, Chinese Progressive Association, School Board member Eric Mark, Sierra Club,League of Conservation Voters, Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club, Former Board of Supervisor Matt Gonzalez, La Raza Centro Legal/San Francisco Day Laborer Program and St. Peter's Housing Committee.
Yes on F - POWER at 415-864-8372 ext 303 or 305
Richard Rothman spoke for Yes on B - Protect Retiree Health Care. 584 Castro Street #414, S.F. Ca. 94114. 415-643-8507 The list of endorsers is amazing.
Mary Jung spoke for No on E Proposition to amend how the five members of the PUC committee are appointed. I believe Mary Jung was just appointed to the Civil Service Commission by Gavin Newsom and is an employee of PG&E who use to work for the PUC. Mary spoke against E because all commissioners would be up at the same time so that there might be a delay in doing PUC business while the appointments were being made through the Board of Supervisors. Someone from the audience indicated that eight supervisors are supporting Yes on E so that this legislation looks like a battle between the Board of Supervisors and the Mayor.
Jennifer Longley spoke for Mark Leno. San Francisco for Democracy PAC recommended Leno for endorsement.
San Francisco for Democracy did an excellent summary of ballot initiatives & PAC Coordinators' recommendations. I didn't stay for the vote count (I will post later).
