"We will last one more day than you"

On Friday night I had the honor to attend the Docudrama recreation of the Epic 2004-2006 contract battle between Local 2 and S.F. Multi-Employer Hotel Group called "53 Days: Local 2 on Stage".

The play was hosted by UNITE HERE Local 2 and produced by the Labor and Community Studies Department of the City College of San Francisco.

Taking oral history from strikers the Labor and Community Studies of City College put this drama together.   So inspiring - a history lesson.  Every child in San Francisco's school system should see this play or read the play out loud.  This is a story about people!!! A lesson for all of us not to give up!!!!

Thank you!!!

  • We are concerned- even outraged - that last year's budget provided generous allocations for the Marina Yacht Club when women's shelters were struggling to stay afloat.
  • We are concerned that in a period of increased domestic violence that services and resources for victims of violence are likely to experience cuts.
We need to take  action - please come to learn, talk, and plan.

Board of Supervisors vote for MTA Budget

Attended Special Board of Supervisors meeting Wednesday at noon for a vote on 2009-2010 Municipal Transportation Agency (MTA) Budget.  Not surprisingly the budget passed on a vote of 6 to 5 with Supervisors Avalos, Mar,  Mirkarimi, Daly  and Campos voting against the budget.

The supervisors including Bevan Dufty, President David Chiu and Sophie Maxwell all did their part in  helping amend the Muni budget.  Now we all have to be watchdogs to make sure that the pressure is  put on  the  SFMTA Board  to make sure revenues are found and that Muni's budget is calculated correctly.

My question is - why did he take so much effort to improve the budget to help the people of San Francisco?  We have to depend on the MTA Board to help us.  I understand why we have the increased fares - but it is the "how" that bothers me.

Everyone involved in pushing for a better budget should be thanked - this is not the end - only the beginning.  Muni goes up to $2. on July 1, 2009 with fast past going up to $55. from $45.

The next meeting of the San Francisco MTA meeting is June 2, 2009 at 2 p.m.
