On Friday night I had the honor to attend the Docudrama recreation of the Epic 2004-2006 contract battle between Local 2 and S.F. Multi-Employer Hotel Group called "53 Days: Local 2 on Stage".
The play was hosted by UNITE HERE Local 2 and produced by the Labor and Community Studies Department of the City College of San Francisco.
Taking oral history from strikers the Labor and Community Studies of City College put this drama together. So inspiring - a history lesson. Every child in San Francisco's school system should see this play or read the play out loud. This is a story about people!!! A lesson for all of us not to give up!!!!
Thank you!!!

Where: California State Building, 455 Golden Gate Avenue, San Francisco
What: General membership meeting to discuss 2009/2010 priorities and critical budget issues. The new budget is expected to arrive with proposed serious cuts that are likely to impact women, children and families. We are deeply concerned and we "need to talk" and plan:
- We are concerned that proposed budget cuts may eliminate the Department on the Status of Women.
- We are concerned that proposed reductions (30%) for city departments may result in poorly funded programs that impact women, children and family health.
- We are concerned- even outraged - that last year's budget provided generous allocations for the Marina Yacht Club when women's shelters were struggling to stay afloat.
- We are concerned that in a period of increased domestic violence that services and resources for victims of violence are likely to experience cuts.
We need to take action - please come to learn, talk, and plan.
