New Direction for the New Year Reception at Westin St. Francis Hotel. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has a New Year party every year. This year's event was low key with Bay Area people who spoke in very quick order to show their support for the Speaker: Christine Pelosi - Nancy's daughter started off the introductions with Mayor Gavin Newsom, Attorney Jerry Brown and John Burton who introduced the Speaker.
As always Nancy was gracious, showing great presence and articulating a New Direction for the Democratic Party and Congress for the New Year. The room was of hope for the new year with a Democratic candidate for president who will win in November.
The room was jammed packed with Democrats (people that have been in politics for years and years - people who really care about Nancy).
Everyone was talking about the February primary. People seemed to be for either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton.
