Walter Johnson - Lifetime UFCW Membership Induction











 Walter Johnson's Lifetime UFCW Membership Induction and Celebration was held at the Laborers Hall Local 261 on 18th Street in San Francisco on May 12th.

Walter Johnson  is one of the most beloved people in San Francisco.  Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, Supervisor David Campos,  Tim Paulson - Executive Director of the San Francisco Labor Council, Art Pulaski - President of the California Federation, Vince Courtney from Local 261, Stan Smith- Retired Secretary Treasurer of the San Francisco Building Trades, Leroy King, Supervisor John Avalos, Jim Salinas Sr. - Latino Democratic Club,  Gabriele Schroeder were some of the many people who spoke.

While past and current  employees from Macy's looked on - Ron Lind, President UFCW Local 5 and UFCW International Vice President  gave the lifetime membership to Walter Johnson (Walter held up his wallet in the air - no more membership dues!).

Mayor Ed Lee declared it "Walter Johnson Day in San Francisco".  Many proclamations were given and kinds words from Senator Dianne Feinstein, Senator Barbara Boxer, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi and  Congresswoman Jackie Speier.

What: Memorial Day Commemoration.
Parade on the Main Post: led by the Pipes and Drums of the 191st Army Band.
Ceremony ends with 21-gun salute by the U.S. Army 5th Brigade 75th Division.
Light refreshments and a spiritual service sponsored by the Interfaith Center will be held at the nearby Presidio Chapel.
Free shuttle service will be provided from parking areas around the Main Post to National Cemetery.
