Very impressive. First educational program from the brand new Democratic organization called "Democratic Women in Action". The program was at Barbara Spack's home on Powell Street across from the Fairmont Hotel (a beautiful home and view).

Goals:
To support the development, passage, and implementation of legislation that will serve the interests of women, children, and families.
To provide public meetings, information campaigns, and support for legislators who focus on women, children and families.
To provide support to the Democratic Party in seeking legislative changes to serve the interest of women, children, and families.
Meeting started with introduction by the Chair, Renee Golanty-Koel with introductions by Vice Chair Jane Bernard -Powers.
Speakers included: State Senator Carole Migden, Assemblyman Mark Leno;Margaret Brodkin Executive Director of the S.F. Department of Children, Youth & Families ; Emily M. Murase, Director of SF Department on the Status of Women; Catherine Dodd - Deputy Chief of Staff for Health and Human Services and Leah Rowell, staff person for State Senator Leland Yee.
This is very serious stuff to talk about- health insurance, child care, education, criminal justice, teacher salaries, affordable housing all this going on with a huge budget deficit.
People attending included Jeannie Maher - President of the Irish Democratic Club and Claudine Cheng - candidate for Supervisor in District Three.
