City Attorney Dennis Herrera - We fight for you

Attended the Campaign Kick-Off for City Attorney Dennis Herrera's third term for City Attorney.  Election will be held on November 3, 2009.   Kick-off was held at the Columbia Park Boys and Girls Club on Guerrero Street.

10 a.m. sharp on  Saturday morning  everyone one was there - very impressive turnout.

Tim Paulson, Executive Director of the San Francisco Labor Council opened up the event, followed by Larry Baer, President of the San Francisco Giants.   Dennis Herrera was introduced by State Chair of the California State Party John Burton.

Dennis Herrera talked about his accomplishments, including opposing Prop. 8, fighting for universal health  care ,  protecting tenants and helping build Willie Mays Center in Hunters Point - "we fight for you".  He wants to "make a difference".

I was impressed by his remarks in what I call "politics of compassion".   The pile of toys brought by everyone for Columbia Park Boys and Girls Club was evidence of his caring.

The campaign is asking everyone to collect signatures in lieu of filing fee - the goal is 10,000 signatures by July 22nd.

Top notch list of attendees included State Senator Leland Yee,  Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, City Treasurer Jose Cisneros, President of the Board David Chiu, Supervisors John Avalos, Ross Mirkarimi, Eric Mar and David Campos along with candidates for supervisor in 2010 Rebecca Prozan, Debra Walker, Laura Spanjian, Scott Weiner and Rafael Mandelman.
