Monday night SFOP (San Francisco Organizing Project) held a District 1 Candidates Forum at the Star of the Sea Catholic Church in the Richmond.
This was a highly organized forum with the following sponsors: SFOP, RAMS Inc., Children's Council, Richmond YMCA, Richmond District Neighborhood Council and Richmond Community Council. Kaiser Permanente provided cheese, crackers, fruit and cookies.
Large crowd came out to hear nine candidates: Nicholas Belloni, Sherman D'Silva, George Flamik, Fidel Gakuba, Jason Jungreis, Brian J. Larkin, Sue Lee, Eric Mar and Alicia Wang.
Candidates were asked questions about housing (SFOP is Yes on B - Affordable Housing Proposition), child care, children's issues, Rapid Transit down Geary and keeping parks up with the decrease in funding.
The candidates were placed in alphabetical order, so the three top contenders all sat together at the end of the table (Lee, Mar and Wang) - (looked a little strange) Candidates had their literature out on tables , Eric Mar and Sue Lee had campaign buttons and Alicia Wang passed out bottled water with "Alicia Wang for Supervisor, District 1" on the label.
Literature picked up at forum :

Board of Supervisors Meeting - Passthrough from landlord to residential tenant ordinance.
When: October 21, 2008 - Tuesday
2 p.m. on
Where: City Hall, San Francisco.
What: On October 1, 2008 the Land Use and Economic Development Committee voted to bring forth legislation proposed by Supervisor Alioto-Pier, Chu, Elsbernd authorizing the passthrough from landlord to residential tenant a percentage of increased water and sewer bill charges after July 1, 2002 to the Board of Supervisors on October 21, 2008. This motion was made with no recommendation from the Land Use and Economic Development Committee (Maxwell, Sandoval and Aaron Peskin). At the meeting amendments to this ordinance (made by the PUC) were made (but not in writing). At the meeting there was strong opposition from Tenants Organization as they consider this a rent increase - on top of the automatic rent increase that is generated ever year.
