I was invited by my friends Harriet and Norman Ishimoto to meet with Candidate for School Board Emily Murase at the home of Nelly Reyes out on Ninth Avenue.
I had a great time! Nelly Reyes has a beautiful home with a balcony with a beautiful view - just the place to meet neighbors and friends and to hear Emily Murase.
Wisely, everyone was asked to talk about some teacher in their lives that changed their lives. As each person spoke their face lit up and it reminded you how important school is. School issues are complicated with tough answers. Budgetary issues, school assignments, education gap, vocational school and of course, JROTC (Prop V).
Emily Murase talked about addressing the enrollment crisis , closing the achievement gap and ensuring teacher retention and recruitment. Emily is obvious a planner, who researches her issues carefully and wants to help the school system. What a great way to meet a candidate (much more personable than the debate forums).
Emily Murase' house signs say "Kids, first, politics last". Web site www.emilymurase.com
